Last November 7, 2012, a powerful earthquake hit the department of San Marcos, Guatemala, leaving dozens dead, injured or missing, and more than 7,000 without homes.
Following these tragic events, the
social parish of the San Marcos diocese sent us information about an important
project they are involved in, which is requesting donations to help those that
have been left homeless and rebuild homes in the affected area.
NSW SLASA (Spanish and Latin
American Association for Social Assistance) and the Spanish Catholic Mission of
Fairfield have decided to work together with the general community to lend our
support to this project and are aiming to organise events to raise funds to
send to Guatemala.
We have formed a committee called
Todos por Guatemala! which involves representatives from various Latin
American communities in Australia, and have begun working on our first activity
which will be an artistic show and Latin American food fair. This event will be
held on April 28, 2013, from 11am to 6pm, at the Bonnyrigg Community Centre,
located in Bonnyrigg Plaza, 26 Bonnyrigg Ave, Bonnyrigg, NSW.
On
behalf of the Todos por Guatemala committee, we would like to see if you would
be interested in making a financial contribution to the project doing a deposit
to AUS LATINAMERICAN RELIEF FUND INC

use in the raffle or helping out in any other way you might see appropriate,
